I had the pleasure of working with Matinah Drew at Richmond Children Services and Advance Care Alliance for multiple years. For me, Matinah was not only a great boss but also a remarkable mentor. The time spent working alongside her provided me with a lot of knowledge, skills, and discipline that I will utilize for a lifetime. Matinah has the ability to create a working atmosphere that is cohesive to hard work that pushes you to be your best, in addition to a space where your voice is heard and your creativity is not stifled. She takes charge of every room she walks in with her knowledge and years of experience in the field. Her work ethic and the atmosphere she created made me enjoy going to work every day. She ignited a passion within me that made me want to learn and perform at the highest level because that was who she is. One can not encounter Matinah and not gain one skillset or advice that will help thrust you into the future. She would certainly be an asset to any organization and working alongside her has been immensely rewarding. I highly recommend her and I hope our paths intersect some time in the future.

As a self-motivated and very innovative thinker, Matinah Drew is a very knowledgeable and articulate leader in her profession. Her expertise and guidance allowed me to feel a sense of comfort during a global pandemic. I had several open doors of opportunity that suddenly closed due to Covid-19. She was gracious enough to assist me with multiple other opportunities that have flourished. I am forever grateful for the opportunity and the profitable future she has opened up for me. During times like this a simple act of human kindness and expertise speaks abundance to ones character.

The first thing that I have to say about Matinah is that she is top-notch in her field. I have had the opportunity to meet many people in the field of Human Resources, but very few of them can hold a candle to Matinah.
I had the privilege of working with Matinah as she built our HR Department from the ground up. As someone who had never working in HR previously and was in an entry-level role, I didn't expect to be seen as a valuable member of the team on my first day. Matinah made it very clear that I was an equal member of the team, regardless of my experience, and that my input was valid and worthy of recognition.
Through Matinah's leadership, we were able to take a start-up with no HR Department and create an entire infrastructure that continues to flourish even now, four months after her departure. Because of Matinah's hard work and leadership, our organization was able to go from 11 employees to over 500 in 10 months, and we are still rapidly growing today. I truly believe that we would be nowhere close to that if someone else had been in her place.
I could go on and on about how fantastic Matinah is, but it would be more pages than anyone is willing to read. To really sum it up, I cannot recommend Matinah highly enough. If you are looking for a true leader with multi-faceted, industry knowledge, then Matinah should always be the first choice.

Matinah was one of the most encouraging and motivating supervisors I ever had. Along with her rich experience and skill in the field of human resources, she has the qualities of an innovator and leader who lifts up everyone she works with. At ACA, she built out systems and processes that allowed the organization to expand by over 300% its original size within less than six months. Under her leadership, a rapidly growing and geographically spread out staff was able to enjoy the personable organizational culture of a small, grassroots nonprofit through employee engagement and a centralized digital workplace/intranet. In the midst of the chaos that comes with getting a startup off the ground, Matinah built out a paperless HR department with over six platforms/systems (including an entire HRIS) tailored to the needs of our growing nonprofit with utmost grace and poise. I highly recommend Matinah for her expansive knowledge of human resources but more importantly for her passion, vision and ability to unite and lead people in achieving a shared goal.

I have worked very closely with Matinah Drew during the past several years she has served as the Director of Human Resources at Morningside House. Matinah possesses the ultimate "can do" attitude while taking on all tasks with a positive energy. In addition, Matinah is extremely well organized and manages the day-to-day assignments of her department and staff with emotional intelligence and efficacy. She always takes the initiative to go beyond the expected parameters of her position. All the intangibles that lead to success in an ever-evolving and challenging HRD and healthcare environment are in order with Matinah.

I have had the pleasure of knowing Matinah for about 3 years and have worked with her over the last year as her Corporate Employee Benefits Broker. Matinah possess all of the expected skills that a strong HR person should have, detail oriented, knowledgeable about the issues related to human resources and how to mitigate them, organized, proactive, etc. What strikes me most about Matinah is her ability to truly relate to both her employees and senior management and to make recommendations and then execute on them with a genuinely empathetic understanding of how both parties will be affected. She cares about her people as much as she seeks to protect the organization for whom she works. Matinah possesses the understanding of both the human side and the business side of HR. I'm so glad to have Matinah as a client.

I had the privilege to work with Ms. Drew for many years while working at a long term care facility. As a department head, At times I needed input and advice on policies and procedures, and all staff related issues. She was so helpful to me and always professional and courteous and willing to offer assistance and problem solving. I learned much about staff management from Matinah.
Also, she is very knowledgable in the field of H.R. with much understanding of all the aspects of her role. She always demonstrated a calm and professional demeanor. I saw first hand her dedication to staff and working closely with management. She always worked to help resolve issues and worked tirelessly to help promote staff appreciation and morale within the facility. I enjoyed working with her planning special staff events in which she was creative and mindful of a very diverse staff and their needs.

I have known Matinah since 2004 when I hired her at Bethel and worked with her until 2011 when I retired. I remember her interview to this day. She was a young woman with not the best resume for our organization (500+ employees in 5 companies going through some difficult times) but she demonstrated an understanding of our organizational structure, maturity, a quiet competence, interpersonal skills, fresh ideas and a willingness to work hard. She sold us (the Executive Team who interviewed her) when she announced at the end of the interview that she was pregnant and that she would require a six week leave in a few months. She wanted us to know that, although she did not have to reveal it, simply as a matter of personal integrity. If that didn’t work for us she understood. There never was a time in the eight years we worked together that I was disappointed in her work. And there were many times I was delighted and sometimes amazed at her creativity in using her skills for the betterment of Bethel and the employees. I considered her one of my strongest executives and I and the other executives trusted and valued for her teamwork, character and judgment. When Matinah first came to Bethel there were serious Union (SEIU 1199) issues. Bethel had not paid some benefits for some time and HR and Management had a strained relationship with the union. Most employers will acknowledge that Union Reps and staff can be difficult at times, but things were particularly bad at Bethel, including pickets at one point. Matinah, as the main contact for union staff had to prove her integrity early on, which she did, and then had to demonstrate consistent fairness, which she also did. She thereby gained the trust of the union and set us on a more cooperative path, gaining some concessions from them and a harmonious working relationship. At all times she demonstrated the character and judgment that generated respect in union and management alike. During her tenure at Bethel Matinah sought and received advanced credentials in Human Resources, helpful not only to her but to Bethel as well. She greatly improved the recruitment process through an innovative team interview process and an improved three stage orientation process. In short, I heartily recommend Matinah for any HR Executive position. Please contact me with any questions or for further information.

I had the pleasure of working with Matinah for about 4 years in the HR Department at Bethel Homes. She was one of the smartest Directors I've worked with. She brought structure to the department defining everyone's roles and mentoring us to be the best we possibly could be. She always strived for excellence. She was very driven and goal oriented. We could always go to her for solutions to our problems but yet she would ask for our feedback when she was in need of some clarification on an employee issue. I witnessed her professionalism when situations presented to her became very challenging and believe me, she is not afraid of a challenge. She helped create reports that gave attention to detail that are still in use today. When Matinah attented a Labor Management or Department Head Meeting there was no doubt that what she brought to the table was a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the contracts, laws and policies as well as the diverse trole of the HR Department. Matinah wil be successful in any role she has the privilege of being given. I highly recommend her and wish her nothing but the best.

I have had the pleasure of working with Matinah since she joined the administrative staff at AIA/MSH. Matinah has an in-depth knowledge of the 1199 contract, and knows how to implement it's contents for the betterment of both the employee and the employer. In addition, Matinah always extends her assistance and support to individual staff members - regardless of the issues they face. She never hesitates to say "send them to me". Matinah has been a great asset to our H.R. department; she will be the same wherever she works.
